Bhasmanchal Malayalaym

Kanalshikaram - Theatre Play

These were not statistics. These were Maharanis — women who had once ruled their homes with care, grace, and grit. Now, they lived among strangers, their voices fading like old songs.

Mohan Nair, a writer and theatre enthusiast, couldn’t shake off their stories. And so, he began to write. Page after page, Bhasmanchal took shape — not as fiction, but as a reflection of a harsh reality most people turn away from.

The title Bhasmanchal — meaning “the land of ashes” — was symbolic. It represents not just the end of physical journeys, but the burning away of identity, relevance, and respect that these women often face. But even in ash, there is warmth.
